Our Story
Golden Optometric was founded in 1959 by Sheldon M. Golden, OD following his graduation from U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry. He started practicing optometry in a small office located inside the US Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego. In 1960 he was given the opportunity to open an office inside the ServMart/CAL Stores at the corner of Washington Blvd. and Rosemead Blvd. in Pico Rivera, CA.
In 1972, Dr. Sheldon Golden moved his practice to its current location on Washington Blvd. in Whittier, CA. Two years later he purchased his second CAL Stores practice in West Covina, CA. Dr. Golden moved the office into the West Covina Fashion Plaza in 1976.
Dr. David Golden, Sheldon’s middle son, joined the practice in 1987, primarily working in the West Covina location. David expanded the practice several times in the mall location before moving the practice to its current location in January, 2006. Today, Golden Optometric operates two of the largest practices in the San Gabriel Valley.
Our centralized laboratory, with over 2000 prescription lenses in stock and computerized pattern-less edging technology, allows our practices to quickly and accurately deliver the finest quality eyeglasses to our patients in the shortest possible time…sometimes in a matter of minutes! We invite you to come and meet our family practice in our Whittier and West Covina offices.
