\nDr. Philip Kwok received two bachelor degrees, one in Molecular & Cell Biology and one in Vision Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He continued his education for another four years at Berkeley in the School of Optometry, where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating in 2001 with honors, and is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society.
Upon receiving his doctorate degree, Dr. Kwok chose to pursue an additional year of residency training in hospital-based eye care with an emphasis on diabetes, glaucoma, neuro-ophthalmology, and vascular disease at the Fresno Veterans Administration Medical Center. During his residency, he participated in research of glaucoma medications and a nationwide study of diabetes effects on the eye, while supervising fourth-year optometry students as the attending resident. His dedication and service to the veterans were recognized with resident awards and the Hospital Director's Recognition award.
With a high regard for academia, Dr. Kwok became an Assistant Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry where he enjoyed teaching third and fourth year students in clinic. He has also lectured on various topics to other doctors on the topics of glaucoma, antibiotics, challenging cases, and ocular surgery. As the Director of Optometry for over 7 years at the Assil Eye Institute in Beverly Hills, CA, Dr. Kwok was instrumental in the care of surgical and glaucoma patients. In addition, he assisted in multiple FDA clinical trials involving multifocal and phakic intraocular lens implants, and various refractive surgery procedures. He later assumed the role of clinic director in charge of UCLA's newly formed Jules Stein Eye Center in Santa Monica, CA where he managed the daily operations of the practice in addition to direct patient care.
Dr. Kwok has multiple certifications including being an ABCMO (American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry) licensed optometrist in the U.S., denoting advanced competence in the medical diagnosis, management, and treatment of primary and secondary eye diseases. Glaucoma certified in the state of California, Dr. Kwok is also licensed to diagnose, treat, and manage the care of glaucoma patients. Dr. Kwok hopes to bring his experience and knowledge in ocular disease to enhance the medical eye care services here at Golden Optometric Group in the newly expanded specialty clinic, Golden Eye Center (coming soon).
In his leisure, Dr. Kwok values family time with his wife and two young boys. He also enjoys watching a variety of college and pro sports, particularly football and basketball.
